Dear Parents,

This week, we started with a very enlightening talk led by Sra Balsalobre regarding Spanish University entrance and how this works with A levels and the British system. If you were unable to attend, please find the link to the presentation on our website, here:

Also, we have enjoyed our next round of Interhouse competitions with Primary Basketball. Do look out for the article coming shortly on our website.

As always, a few notices…..

GCSE options (extra meeting)

A message from Mrs Green:

Next Thursday 15th Feb, at 4.30pm to 5.30pm in MPR, there will be an optional extra opportunity for parents of Year 9 pupils to seek additional subject specific advice from GCSE Subject specialists. This is to help the students in choosing their 3 preferences and 2 reserves. No appointments are necessary; it is a drop in session. Mr.Green, Mr Snowden and I will also be on hand to answer any additional general GCSE and or Option queries.

I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Staffing

I am very happy to say that we are now back to ‘full strength’ here at KCM, with the return of Miss Nevin to work today.

Further to my message last week, we are currently recruiting for the Maths and Languages posts that we were not able to fill. There are a number of strong candidates which my team and I will be interviewing over the coming weeks.

Attendance

We have been analysing pupil attendance across the school and will be introducing some measures shortly to improve this. There has been much research in recent years regarding the correlation between attendance and overall achievement, the biggest being in March 2016 by the DfE:

This is very detailed, using the data from over 1 million pupils (from KS2 and KS4) in the UK.

Some other interesting articles (from the USA) can also be found here:

http://www.attendanceworks.org/chronic-absence/the-problem/10-facts-about-school-attendance/

All point to the importance of attendance and its direct relationship with attainment in examinations.

Calendar dates and changes:

A reminder that the school will be closed on Monday 26th February.

Also, the Year 11-13 Parents Evening will be moved to Thursday 15th March.
