Dear Parents,

Welcome back from the festive period. Welcome also to Mr Laing, our new Business Studies teacher, who started this week. As always, it was great to see all the children’s smiling, but distinctly tired (!!) faces on Tuesday morning at the gate. I trust everyone has had a restful break and I hear that Santa and the Three Kings were extremely generous!

Next week, we look forward to our first round of Inter-House competitions, with Primary Chess as well as a football competition at Elche!

As always, a few notices….

From our Head of Maths, Mr Lester:

During November and December our pupils took part in the COBIS Mangahigh Maths Challenge, in which they competed against other schools around the world by completing online tasks.  I was delighted to see how enthusiastically our students engaged in the competition (some to the point of obsession!) both in school and in their spare time.  The result of all this hard work was that King´s College Murcia finished in 10th position worldwide!  This was an amazing achievement considering the schools that finished above us (and many that finished below) are much larger than King´s College.  I look forward to rewarding our top points scorers with medals and certificates in the near future.

Calendars

We still have a few King’s College charity calendars for sale. If you would like one, then they can be purchased at reception for a mere 5 Euros.

Charity Committee Meeting

Our next meeting will take place, as usual after our next Coffee Morning on Tuesday 30th January. As always, all are welcome.

RE-ENROLMENT LETTERS

You will have received by now your re-enrolment letter for next year. Please do fill this in as soon as possible and return to us. If you have not received your letter, or have misplaced it, we do have some copies available at reception or by clicking here.

UNIVERSITY DESTINATIONS

As promised last December, I am pleased to inform you that you will receive a copy of our latest “University Destinations” booklet.  You will be delighted to read about the prestigious universities that our students joined, not only in Spain, but also in the UK and USA, last September.

The King’s College Variety Performance

Following last year’s success, the ‘King’s College Variety Performance’ will soon be upon us. As with last year, there will be an auditions process, much like Britain’s Got Talent, but with a bit of X Factor rolled in. That is to say auditions will be held next week. Those making it through the first round of auditions will go through directly to the Variety Performance on Wednesday 24th January. Therefore, the auditions will be competitive and we will have a panel of judges consisting of Mrs Fellows, Mr Dadd and Mr Green determining who gets through.

All acts performing in the Variety Performance on Wednesday 24th January will receive a prize.

COBIS Games

Mr Ryland is currently in the process of selecting his squad for the COBIS Games to be held in May in Sheffield, UK. Trials are taking place over the next few weeks for KS3 pupils.

Parents’ Evenings

The season of Parents’ evenings is upon us. Next week will be the turn of Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6). These will be held on Wednesday and Thursday from 16.40 to 18.30 – apologies for the date error in the ‘Upcoming Events’ section in my last letter, the dates on the calendar are correct!.

Pupil Voice in action!

Next week will see the start of on of our first Pupil Voice (PV) initiatives  – ‘Switch Off’ fortnight’. Members of our PV ‘Operations’ group will be giving an assembly on Monday, followed by a fortnight of monitoring our school’s energy consumption and looking at efficiencies. A very exciting development from our representatives! We will give you an update next week!
