The ever expanding inter-schools competition program at KC Murcia continued last week with the first round of the KS3 football tournaments. We took over 50 students to Elche to compete against 5 other schools including KC Alicante, Newton College, Phoenix College, ELIS Murcia and ELIS Villamartin.

The Year 7 boys team got off to a great start winning 5 – 0 against Villamartin. A draw against Alicante and a narrow loss to ELIS Murcia puts them in the middle of the pack. Alex S was excellent throughout with Alfonso B working hard in midfield.

The Year 8 boys managed to take an A and a B team this year, which is a testament to their enthusiasm. The B team narrowly lost their first game and couldn’t quite get a victory in the next two games so will have to work hard in the next round. The A team had an excellent day, winning their first game 6 – 0 and coming from behind in their second game against ELIS to snatch a draw. The final game saw a hard fought 2-1 against Alicante putting them in contention for the finals. Mate M and Charlie R were excellent throughout.

The Year 9 Boys only played two games, but did enough to put themselves through. They started with a 0-0 draw against Alicante, who had recently beaten them in England. They then beat Newton College 3-0 putting them top on goal difference. Yilian G was outstanding in defence.

The KS3 girls had the toughest group and finished the day with a narrow loss against Alicante and a solid draw against Newton College. They still have the opportunity to progress with a couple of victories needed in the next round. Grace F was excellent in the centre of the park.

Many thanks to ELIS Murcia for organising the event, and Mr Mills, Mr Turner and Miss Purcell for their outstanding management. We look forward to the next round!
