Dear Parents,

I hope you have all had a good week! We have been very busy in school changing the displays of students’ work and showcasing their achievements. The school environment is much improved and many of your children have mentioned this to me. The corridor displays are focused on celebrating students’ work and progress and the displays in the classrooms are largely useful information, key words and support for the different curriculum subjects. Many thanks to the students, teachers, all support staff and our caretakers who have been taking things down and painting the school!

Visit from Mr J Newton from Kings’ College School La Moraleja

This week we were visited by Mr Newton who is the Deputy Head at my old school in Madrid. Mr Newton is an aspiring Headteacher who attended a course I used to organise for senior leaders and was keen to come and visit me during the first months of a new Headship. He was delighted by our students and impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of the teachers. I was very proud to host him. He has now set up a number of introductions and links for our teachers to connect and collaborate with teachers in Madrid. Networking and collaboration can be a wonderful opportunity for professional development and support.

New buildings project

A meeting is planned for next week with the Inspired facilities team to discuss future projects at the school apart from the ones I have shared with you! We are doing a lot of future planning to improve the playgrounds and outside space.

MUN Meeting with San Mateo

This week we had an extremely exciting ZOOM call with Inspired school San Mateo in Bogatá, Columbia. ( 23 of our students from Yr 8 to Yr 12 have come forward to participate. We listened carefully to the instructions and importance of using formal language and protocol in a Model United Nations event and our students were not at all phased by the large amount of work and reading they have to do before the main event next week! They will be busy this weekend preparing opening speeches, position papers and portfolios on the country they are representing. I am absolutely thrilled as MUN is one of my most favourite school events! Huge thanks to Mrs Williams who is leading this event along with Sr Puente and Sra Balsalobre.

Meeting students

This week I have been meeting students from KS3, Years 9 to 6. I am so proud of them and their ideas for school improvement. I will give you a more detailed overview of their ideas next week.

Extra curricular activities

Thank you for all the interest and suggestions regarding clubs and activities. We have now built a timetable of clubs for both lunchtimes and out of school hours. Next week we will send all the information required to sign-up for additional clubs, although this is not required for lunchtime activities. We are continuing to expand on the options available, with many Spanish and Language clubs to be added. It will be great to see lots of students involved.

Music Lessons

Lots of parents have requested music lessons at school. We have sent you all a letter regarding this and hope you will take advantage of this at school. If you have any further questions please contact Mrs Rumistrzewicz.

Radio Interview

This morning Ms Guilar was interviewed by radio Ulster for her views on schools in Spain and N.Ireland. She has already received a lot of positive feedback, promoted the positives of having our students in school and also highlighted how well our school procedures have worked. Congratulations to her! We are happy to have a radio star at school!

Congratulations to Theo and Charlie Rumistrzewicz who have been asked to play cricket for the Spanish national Team! Well done!

Have a wonderful weekend!

With best wishes,
