Dear Parents,

Last weekend marked the United Nations’ World Children’s Day, celebrating the UN Declaration and subsequent Convention on the Rights of the Child. Reflections this year were, of course, on ensuring students are not disadvantaged by the current times we grapple with. So I am glad that our students have been able to return to school and continue their learning, with aspirations undiminished.

Despite the inevitable Covid operational focus, our school development plan remains a priority and actions this term continue to push this forward, not only in learning and teaching but also in extra curricular activities. These have been challenging times, but I have been hugely impressed with our students’ application to the Christmas music play alongs and also the enthusiasm for the re-emergence of inter house competitions. All these things add to the broad and exciting experience we offer at KCM.

I am pleased to say that after Maria’s return to the national health service over a week ago, we have welcomed Nurse Lourdes to our family. Nurse Lourdes has been really excited to join the team. Please do say ‘Hello’, albeit virtually, when you get the chance. Also, on the subject of safeguarding and wellbeing, our school counsellor, Jorge, has created a short video presentation to introduce himself and also to explain in a little more detail his role within the school. A few notices this week….

Charity

Thank you to you all for your overwhelming support for this year’s Christmas Shoebox collection for the San Jose orphanage. It has been truly wonderful to see the students engaging in this cause so wholeheartedly – the 6th form wrapping being a particular highlight (see our Twitter feed!).

Health and Safety

Again, my thanks to you all for adhering to our request regarding social distancing and not congregating at the parent ‘drop off’ area. It is very much appreciated and we have already seen a much better flow of ‘traffic’.

Please still continue to be vigilant with younger children who are waiting with you, so as to avoid the hazard of moving buses! Many thanks.
