Dear Parents,

As one short week finishes, another is about to begin. Despite the four day week, much has happened throughout the school.

Given the restrictions placed on sports and music due to COVID, it has been truly wonderful to celebrate  sporting success this week. Throughout September, pupils across many year groups have been participating in the Interhouse Fitness Challenge. Please do take a look at the website article here. Of course, we must congratulate Cervantes house for their overall victory and Gaudi house for running a very close second. Even so, well done to everyone for taking part wholeheartedly and ‘blowing off the cobwebs’ of the last few months in quarantine.

Equally restrictive have been the regulations for music teaching. So it was great to see our Year 9 students enjoying their ‘trip’ to the theatre to watch the Broadway production of ‘Hamilton’, which forms part of the Year 9 music syllabus this year. Several mentioned that the time ‘flew by’ as they were transported back in time to 18th century America and its battle for independence.

Perhaps less restrictive, but equally inspiring, was today’s virtual visit of the poet, Ash Dickinson, who read to our older pupils some classic poetry as well as some of his own writings. Who knows, today may inspire some of the poets of the future.

As always, a few notices…..

Winter Uniform & School Shop

As with previous years, we will be switching to winter uniform from the beginning of November. That is to say, after the long weekend, when we return on Wednesday 4th November, your child should be in winter uniform. The school shop will be reopening on Tuesday 13th October, so please do make sure that your child has the correct uniform. Please click here for the uniform list.

Charity – Just One Tree – Wear Green

Two of our Year 13 students and eco ambassadors, Keelin and Celia, have taken the lead in organising next week’s non-uniform (aka ‘mufti’) day with an aim to raise money for the ‘Just One Tree’ charity. The idea being that, for a suggested donation of 1 Euro, your child can come to school wearing green in support of this worthwhile charity. ‘Just One Tree’ is a non-profit initiative, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions through a sustained programme of reforestation in various affected countries around the world. More details can be found here.  Pupils will be attending virtual assemblies and presentations on this issue. We look forward to seeing many of you in green on Friday in support of this worthwhile cause.
