Our first full week back has drawn to a close. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and understanding throughout this difficult time, as we look to adapt within our published guidelines. I have been most impressed with the resilience of our pupils and how they have continued to follow our new protocols. Also, to you too – ingress and egress of the school site has worked very smoothly. This week has seen our lowest ever percentage of late arrivals.
During lunch, pupils are staying within their bubbles and keeping to the zones we have marked out, both within the dining room and outside. Again, we have been most impressed with how well the pupils have adapted to the new regime. In fact, some have commented on how much they like the new set up in the dining room, where many tables only have two pupils to allow for the required social distancing – making for some romantic ‘tête à tête’s!
In the class, distancing is being maintained in all year groups over the age of 6, as required – socially distanced PE outdoors was a sight to behold, I must say! Again, our pupils have demonstrated how resilient they are to these changes and not being able to see their teachers’ faces, which is perhaps the most significant change. Even so, it is clear from our pupils’ reactions, and through talking to them, that they have enjoyed their return immensely.
Two pupils in particular have enjoyed their return. Marta C. and Marcos F. in Year 12 were awarded Academic Scholarships for their outstanding GCSE results this year. King’s Scholarships are awarded annually to the Sixth Form pupils who have achieved the highest academic results. So congratulations to them both and I am sure you will join me in wishing them every success in their 6th Form Careers.
