Today we commemorate International Women’s Day, with pupils augmenting their uniforms with purple in recognition of the event – purple ties, jumpers or indeed, headbands.This year’s theme being: ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’ and as pertinent as ever. Older pupils have been looking at Women’s rights over the years during lessons this week.
We are very proud to recognise one of our Y12 pupils that has achieved a Learner Recognition Award from Edexcel (the GCSE examination board). Catherine K. achieved the highest mark in the whole of Europe for her Chemistry GCSE examination. We congratulate her and our Science department on this fantastic achievement.
The UK Maths Trust (UKMT) Challenge is taken by over half a million students across the UK each year. This year, three of our students achieved a silver award, with Marco M. in Y10 achieving a prestigious Gold award. Congratulations to the winners.
As you know, Marcos, the Head Chef of Nexalia has been cooking the food throughout this week for all the children and our very own Jose Luis has been observing. Marcos brought with him some ‘push button’ feedback machines, which will give us more of an idea which dishes are working well and which ones we need to develop. Our Head Boy and Head Girl (together with Pupil Voice) have also been completing a survey to provide more extensive feedback to our catering company.
SUMMER SCHOOL – COURSES
You will have received an email from Mr McIntyre regarding our Summer School and some courses we are looking to introduce, if there is enough interest. Please do look out for it and respond to Mr McIntyre as soon as possible.
This week we said ‘Farewell and best wishes’, to Sra Balsalobre, who has now begun her maternity leave. Of course I am sure you will join me in wishing her well. At the same time we welcome back Sra Martinez (who was with us last term), who will be taking over Sra Balsalobre’s classes in her absence. The Director Tecnico role will be fulfilled by Sr Puente, our Head of Spanish, during her absence. So please do contact Sr Puente, if you have any queries in this regard.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
Last weekend, a few of our older pupils embarked on their practice expedition for the Gold Award, the highest level of award possible – you can find more information here. This level of expedition requires (ultimately) a 76km hike! Please do look out for the article on our website.
TUCK SHOP RETURNS
Next Tuesday, 12th March, we are re-introducing the School Tuck Shop. This will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room and, as before, healthy snacks will be available during the break time. All monies raised will go towards raising funds for upcoming music events, both for COBIS and King’s, in the next academic year.
|Mon 11th||Mock Examinations begin (Y11 to 13)|
|Mon 18th||Public Holiday|
|Tues 19th||Public Holiday|
Next week, I am sure your sons and daughters do not need a reminder, but our last set of mock examinations for Years 11 to 13 will start next week. As always, we wish all of our pupils all the very best in this, their final push towards the ‘real thing’ in a couple of months’ time.
Have a great weekend and a good rest.
